Cairo 2007

...We didn’t get to see that many other performances whilst we were down there, the schedule was to tight and our stay too short, but we did see the other Müller production which was on: An Italian company was doing Quartet. It was bloody amazing. Laboratorium Teatro from Rome really made Müller’s erotically problematic text come alive physically, with ingenious stage imagery, lines spat like machine gun fire and fervour like only the Italians can do it.

CONTINUED SUCCESS FOR GRADUATE DIRECTORS Following their selection for the 2007 International Festival of Experimental Theatre in Cairo, Egypt in August 2007, two recent Directing graduates from Rose Bruford College, Philip Thorne and Oystein U. Brager were invited to showcase their Rose Bruford College production of Hamletmachine by Heiner Muller at Claudio Gora's Festival of Experimental Performance in Rome, Italy in December 2007. Philip and Oystein, who were joint Directors for the production, were joined on stage by Hannah Boyde and another Rose Bruford College alumnus, Samuel Metcalfe. They said 'The festival was a great experience, above all due to the charming and intimate Laboratorium Teatro which we all fell in love with, and the passion and enthusiasm put into the running of this remarkable festival. Five productions competed for the festival's award - the Premio Claudio Gora. We feel very honoured that the festival Jury chose our production to receive the Premio Claudio Gora 2007 Award. This is a huge encouragement and support for our work and we warmly thank the Association Claudio Gora for having given us this opportunity to perform in Rome. We hope to return to Laboratorium Teatro again soon and maybe collaborate with them on future productions.' The Festival jury selected Hamletmachine for the Premio Claudio Gora because of its ability to express through poetry of the body, the power of images and the strength of silences, and the rigorous research conducted.
